I'm not sure what exactly it is, but when I tell people I'm a bellydancer, they get this sly smile on their face and say, "ooooh." Somehow the words come out of my mouth, go into their ear, and by the time it hits their brain, I'm a stripper or some kind of go-go dancer. I saw a friend of mine do a flamenco show tonight, and when it was mentioned in her introduction that she was also a bellydancer, the audience hooted. Somehow I don't see people hooting for ballet, or modern dance, or flamenco, or ballroom.
That baffles me too! I wonder where that comes from. An older generation? Ok, maybe some lingering suggestion of burlesque, but anyone under the age of 50? where does this weird idea come from? Anyway, it annoys me to no end too.
BTW, thanks for comming by and commenting, I will add a link to you on our blog too.

Thanks for the link and great post on this topic on your blog!
For me, it's the younger ones that seem to do it more - the older gentlemen might think it, but they keep their mouths shut.
